Premier League, matchday 26

Aston Villa - Manchester United
Aston Villa, 1-1 against ten-man Manchester United

Manchester United missed the chance yesterday to be on the 1st place of the English Premier League table.

The home team scored the first goal, in the 19th minute of the game, when the right-back Cuellar put the boal in the net with his head.

The Red Devils tried to respond with some attacks and they have reacted well fast, when Collins from Aston Villa scored an own goal from a Ryan Giggs powerful volley-shot.

The score at half-time was 1-1.

In the second half of the match, Nani from Manchester United received a red card, being eliminated. However, with ten man on the pitch, the Red Devils were more on attack, but they didn’t score. The final score was also 1-1. This result help Villa, because Liverpool have lost with Arsenal with 1-0 and they continue to hope for the final place for the Champions League.

Arsenal - Liverpool
A lot of luck for Wenger’s side in derby with Liverpool. Arsenal – Liverpool 1-0

Arsenal still have chances for the title after yesterday’s victory against Liverpool! After a little boring first half with no goals, the second half was under fire. Both teams wanted a victory, but Diaby’s header from a perfect Rosicky cross was enough to preserve the result. Even if Liverpool appeared to be the better side because the big chances of N’Gog, Lucas Leiva and the last minute free-kick controversy, Arsenal was the winner of the match. Liverpool showed a lot of potential but it wasn’t enough. In the 93rd minute, Howard Webb accorded a free-kick. Gerrard executed it and Fabregas clearly handed the ball. The referee didn’t give a penalty and the final score was 1-0. Liverpool are still on the 4th place on the table with 44 points, like Manchester City, but City has only 24 matches, with 2 in minus then Liverpool.

Louis Saha, Everton
The Shock of the week: Sensational comeback for Everton against Chelsea (2-1) with Louis Saha in great form!

In the 17th minute Chelsea opened the score with Florent Malouda. Nobody believed that Everton can be capable to make a comeback, but the former striker of Manchester United equalised in the 33rd minute and Everton was back into the game. The final moments of the first half were like in horror movies for Chelsea players when for Everton was given a penalty. Louis Saha was the one who taked it. He missed. The score at half time was 1-1. Saha caused a lot of problems for the 1st placed team on the table, but Chelsea’s play remained the same: arrogant. Ancelotti’s team paid for the arrogance in the 75th minute when Saha scored again and made a comeback for his side. Drogba tried to equalise in the last minutes, but he didn’t score. The final score was 2-1 for Everton and Saha can be proud of his overall performance!

Chelsea destroyed Arsenal with 2-0

Dider Drogba

Arsenal’s chances to win the title were almost dashed after Drogba’s show last night on Stamford Bridge.

The Ivorian striker scored two goals. The first one was in the start of the match, from Malouda’s corner, in the 8th minute, when he put the ball in the net from John Terry’s header.

Arsenal had some chances to equalise with Nasri and Arshavin, but Petr Cech was in great form and the second goal has come after fifteen minutes, when Frank Lampard sprinted 20 meters, and passed the ball to Drogba, who has scored.

Drogba could make his hattrick in the second half if the ball from the freekick which he executed gone in. Only one goal needs Didier Drogba to score his 75th goal in Chelsea’s shirt.

John Terry, the captain of Chelsea, was in good shape too and he didn’t show fear on his face from the recent scandal with Wayne Bridge’s wife in the newspapers.

The final score was 2-0, with Arsenal sinking like the Titanic and with Chelsea on the 1st place on the table. After the match, Ancelotti hailed his captain and Drogba’s goals and Wenger praised John Terry too.

Jorge Valdano: “City had nothing prepared for Gago!”

Fernando Gago

Jorge Valdano, Real Madrid’s sporting director criticized Manchester City for the rumour from the transfer market viewing Fernando Gago’s move to Premier League.

“Manchester City had nothing prepared, not even one document signed. The English club had not reached an agreement with the player and they would have needed to do everything in 40 minutes.”

The midfielder’s agent, Marcello Lombilla, told that the club from Manchester has used them. “This has never happened to me before. I don’t want to talk about the figures that City were offering because they approached Madrid without even knowing there wasn’t physically enough time to put something together.”, he said.

Gago played 76 matches for Real Madrid and scored only a goal since 2007.

Only a draw for Chelsea against Hull City (1-1)

Hull City - Chelsea

Chelsea have drawn yesterday against relegation candidates Hull City (1-1) and the team missed the opportunity to take a 4 points advantage against 2nd placed Manchester United in the English Premier League.

The match started well for Chelsea with Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard in good shape, but Boaz Myhill, the goalkeeper of Hull City was in good form too and they didn’t score.

The surprise has come for the home team when Hull City had a corner and Stephen Hunt executed perfectly and Mouyokolo scored for 1-0 in the 30th minute.

Didier Drogba scored in the 42nd minute of the game a beautiful goal from a free-kick and he calmed the spirits for half-time, but it was not enough for Chelsea to obtain a victory.

Anthony Gardner from Hull had the chance to get back the advantage on the score table, but he missed.

The final score was 1-1 with Chelsea unhappy with the result.
